The Joint Conference for 2021 is concluded. We finished strong with a great presentation on the crashes by Brad Muir and Greg Russell. The second test with a van holding a ton of sand was like a deadblow hammer, and the highspeed videos show the van getting pushed backwards by the car, but then the sand catches up and stops everything right there. I'll be uploading presentations and videos and test data and Pix4D maps and such to the Reference Library as soon as I get caught up. Probably gonna be a few days. Until next year! Peace. -W

ACTAR has notified us that the conference next month has been approved for up to 21 CEUs. In the "Forewarned is Forearmed" department, This is for anyone who might be planning to sign in to get CEUs, and scoot out for a round of golf or whatever. ACTAR has begun tracking attendance at each session one wishes to get credit for, so actually being in the room EVERY TIME may be necessary to get those CEUs. Don't be surprised if that's the case, eh? Bring your cellphones - signing in by using a cellphone and a scan-code was how it was done at the test-round at IPTM earlier this year. Peace. -W

The Boards of MDATAI (who is hosting this year) and NAPARS (who is helping) have both voted that the in-person Conference October 6-8 should go forward as planned. The room at the Grand Hotel is ginormous, so spacing should be no problem. We'll have masks and sanitizer on hand and we will be verifying temperatures with non-contact thermometers at the meeting room entrance. Anyone with flu-like symptoms is asked to sit this one out, eh? We will have live crash tests, but we will not be conducting contemporaneous Zoom broadcasts. As in years past, handout material will be uploaded in a few months to the Reference Library, with presenters' permission. We're approaching 100 registered attendees at this point, so it should be a good crowd.

ACTAR TEST: There's an ACTAR test the day before - see ACTAR.ORG for that registration.

ACTAR TEST PREP CLASS: I'll be leading a day of preparation for the test on October 4th at the hotel, with assistance from one or two ACTAR-certified recons - sign up for that at the EVENTS tab.

PART 107 Class: There are 10 attendees already signed up for the Unmanned Aerial System class, you can join them! Sign up in the EVENTS tab for this, too.

The US Mail system is still recovering from the deluge of the holidays, it seems. The Nov/Dec 2020 issue that went in the mail 2 months ago has finally arrived at my house in NH. The latest issue, Jan/Feb 2021, has gone out to everyone's email already. Hardcopies will be along eventually. Don't hold your breath, though, eh? Peace. -W

In dealing with the conference in October, I was delinquent about uploading previous issues to the Reference Library. That is now complete. One hundred and seventy nine ARJ issues for your reading pleasure and edification are there for every member. Please remember that these are copyrighted documents, here for the use of our members. We pay the publisher an annual fee for this benefit to our membership. Please don't be sharing them around or otherwise transgressing his copyright, ok? Thanks. Peace. -Wade, admin.

Our election for the 2021-2022 Board of Directors term has concluded.

We had a total of 144 respondents cast their votes.

The Executive Board members, running unopposed, each win another term:

         PRESIDENT: Tommy Sturdivan (141 votes)

VICE PRESIDENT: Richard "Rick" McAlister (139 votes)

         TREASURER: George Meinschein (138 votes)

         SECRETARY: Adam Hyde (139 votes)

Based on the membership makeup at this point, we need Two (2) "Law Enforcement" representatives and Four (4) Private Sector representatives. The six seats will be filled by the 5 incumbents and one new member. Between them, they reflect a total of 4 L/E and 5 P/S backgrounds, so we meet our diversity goal. The board for 2021-2022 will be as follows:

         C. Greg Russell, Law Enforcement and private sector (130 votes)

Hugh Bean, Law Enforcement (121 votes)

Dr. Susan Lantz, private sector(120 votes)

Dr. Rick Wakefield, private sector (105 votes)

Vladimir Bortchevsky, Law Enforcement and private sector (104)

Brian Fowler, Law Enforcement and private sector, new member (95)

We had two additional candidates who did not win a seat this go-round.

         Robert "Rob" Lee, (67 votes)

         Reza Marshall, (41 votes)
