Attendees will learn skills needed to properly handle the unique documentation and analytical aspects of commercial motor vehicle collisions. Attendees will gain knowledge in heavy vehicle nomenclature, components, and assemblies. Lecture and hands-on experience will focus on mechanical inspections of collision-damaged heavy vehicles.
Attendees will be provided with foundational information about each heavy vehicle component and then will apply that knowledge to examine and test a crashed heavy truck. Additional training will involve undamaged heavy trucks for better understanding of components.
Attendees will learn to identify components of brake, steering, and suspension systems, and explain how the components may have been a factor in the collision event.
Attendees will be able to demonstrate how to restore a damaged air-brake system on a heavy-duty commercial vehicle to the pre-collision condition for the purpose of collecting data to perform brake efficiency calculations.
The hands-on portion will involve intact and wrecked/out-of-service trucks. There will be sharp things, diesel, grease, and road-grime. As such, attendees should dress accordingly.
The class and inspection area are both at CN Brown at 386 Main Street, Poland ME 04274. They have offered their equipment for our use, as well as a training room.
Lodging and meals will be the responsibility of each attendee.
Lunch will be available to order for delivery each day from a local shop called Dad's Place for $10 per day. Attendees should pay for each day you want when registering. You can order from the menu each morning with few limitations (up to $20). If you want to see the menu first, write me to ask for one, admin@napars.org. Attendees are also free to make their own arrangements.

The closest and perhaps nicest hotel nearby is the Historic Poland Spring Inn which is less than a mile from the classroom. They offer rooms between $139 and $150, and may have government rate rooms available for $99. https://polandspringresort.com

The nearest airport is Portland (PWM), about 27 miles away from the training area, and the Augusta airport is 41 miles. There are no taxis to the area. A rental car is suggested.
The class runs late into the day Friday with an exam scheduled, so please plan accordingly.
