Attendees will learn skills needed to properly handle the unique documentation and analytical aspects of commercial motor vehicle collisions. Attendees will gain knowledge in heavy vehicle nomenclature, components, and assemblies. Lecture and hands-on experience will focus on mechanical inspections of collision-damaged heavy vehicles.

Attendees will be provided with foundational information about each heavy vehicle component and then will apply that knowledge to examine and test a crashed heavy truck. Additional training will involve undamaged heavy trucks for better understanding of components.

Attendees will learn to identify components of brake, steering, and suspension systems, and explain how the components may have been a factor in the collision event.

Attendees will be able to demonstrate how to restore a damaged air-brake system on a heavy-duty commercial vehicle to the pre-collision condition for the purpose of collecting data to perform brake efficiency calculations.

The hands-on portion will involve intact and wrecked trucks. There will be sharp things, diesel, grease, and roadgrime. As such, attendees should dress accordingly.

The class location is at the Coca Cola United Bottling Company in Chattanooga,Tn. 2111 W. Shepard Rd.

The closest hotels are approximately 3 miles away on Shallowford Rd near Interstate 75. This is also the best area to find restaurants. Lodging and meals, will be the responsibility of each attendee.

The nearest airport is Lovell Field in Chattanooga. It is approximately 0.5 miles from the classroom and approximately 3 miles from the suggested lodging.

The class runs late into the day Friday with an exam scheduled, so please plan accordingly.
